Tea Party Hat

Tea Time
I got this idea to decorate a hat to wear to the tea... just for fun. So, I went to the nearest thrift store and I bought a straw hat. I took all the decorations off of it and cleaned it up. At lunch yesterday I went to Joannes craft store to buy more decorations for the hat. During my lunch time I looked at ribbon, flowers, and buttons to use to decorate the hat for the tea on Saturday.

I bought a brown ribbon to cover the hat band that it had, then I have a big brown flower made of ribbon to be the focal point. On each side, I glued aqua little flowers and a butterfly. The butterflies are actually buttons, so they have lots of deep color of aqua and blues. And just to be whimsical (which is my reason to do this in the first place) I glued these two buttons on top of the brown ribbon flower... one that is a tea cup and the other which is a tea pot. The back drop of the brown sets off the tea cup and the pot.

It isn't a requirement to wear a hat to the tea on Saturday, so I didn't have to decorate a hat. I felt like just having some fun. You know what I mean? By being a little corny. I felt like celebrating a little too after enduring the dark winter, and now it is spring! I don't often get the opportunity to decorate for fun but it felt so good that I think I will make sure that I do a lot more of it this spring and summer... and right into fall and winter. I believe that being creative is one of the best ways to feel good... shake off the blues (if you have them) by picking a project and doing something creative!

Tonight I bake scones for the tea. We have 114 ladies coming on Saturday and we have quite a few ladies baking. That should be interesting. I have never baked scones before... hope I do well. I never had a scone until I came to Washington. Because we are so close to Canada and because of Starbucks coming from Seattle... those two reasons one would learn what a scone is here. Have a great Thursday!

Hi Danna, I love scones though I have never made them. Starbucks has some good pastries. Did you take a picture of your hat? I have a tea cup like the one you shared. I have several tea pages at my website.Have fun at the tea!

Hi Danna! Even though we lived in England, I never had a scone until we came back to the USA. I had one at Starbucks, but I think I remember not liking it. Aren't they like a hard (very hard) biscuit?

Hope you take pics of your hat.

My camera is a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Elph. I LOVE it! Costco had an awesome price on it.

Have a great weekend. Hugs!
