Ground Hog Day and Candlemas

Today is Ground Hog Day. The world's most famous groundhog saw his shadow this morning, predicting that this already long winter will last for six more weeks. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning. According to legend, if he does, we will have six more weeks of spring. I think he should move to Seattle, because here he wouldn't be seeing his shadow. So, maybe spring will come early here. Besides, after the Steelers close win yesterday... they can't win them all.

I notice that it is Candlemas too and had to look it up to see what it was. It is the Presentation of Jesus, and the day of purification for Mary. A Festival Day. It is the day that all decorations from Christmas were removed (boy did I jump the gun on that one). I was at a golf course the other day to give a presentation to the Rotary club and the Christmas decorations were up still. Then I couldn't understand why I was looking at decorated Christmas trees and garland. But maybe the owners have a deeper root in Europe. That would make it very understandable. This was the belief too: "If Candlemas Day is clear and bright, / winter will have another bite. / If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain, / winter is gone and will not come again." Does that sound familiar? Groundhogs Day is rooted in Candlemas.

It was sunny here on Saturday so we took the boys with us on a drive. And yesterday we spent closer to home and celebrated Brady's birthday. We went over to Kari's place. She is all moved in and the boys were excited that we were there instead of here as you can imagine. I took pictures and as soon as I get them off my camera etc, I will post them here and on facebook.

I better get rolling... I have to get ready for work and I hope to stop by Safeway on my way there today. This is one of those days for me I wish I was retired or a SAHP (stay at home person). I have to work in the Welcome Center today. Have a great week!

Hi Danna, I just watched The Bachelor and was sad to see Stephanie go. I liked her and think Naomi should have gone. Oh well. Happy Birthday to Brady!
