Oh, boy! August! Love August! So many fond summertime memories I have and love to make! AND it is our birthday month! Yes, Dave has his on the 22nd... and Riley & I have ours on the 29th! So it is a special month because we celebrate all month long, it seems.
Last weekend I was going to go camping with the boys but Dave had to work... so I did the next best thing. We camped out in the backyard! I am one that would have gone camping on my own with the boys, but it would have worried Dave, so this was my solution. Kari joined in... she wouldn't have been able to if we really had gone off somewhere. She had to work too on Saturday.
We were laying in the tent on Saturday night and Kari says to me, "Do you know that many grandmothers wouldn't do the things you do like sleep outside in the backyard in a tent?". Actually, no, I never thought about it. Most of my friends I think would... we are like that. We enjoy the children and love making memories. (Take note that I am not stupid, I have the air mattress out in that tent.) I want my grandsons to remember me as a person that loved life and participated in their lives! Now is the time! Not later...
So on that note, let's "ROCK" (as Kari would say) August! Let's get out there and really enjoy the sun and fun while we still have summer!

What a great alternative to your camping dilemma. Camping in the backyard. My kids use to do that when they were younger too, I hope someday when my grandchildren come along I can be the same type of grandmother that "joins in" their lives.
