Fall Quarter Start

There is one thing on the face of this planet that takes courage to face, and that is Fall Quarter Start! Not only has the college I work for been reduced in classes this year because of the economy, there is an increase on the amount of students coming to community colleges all over the nation. Here is an article from Sacramento, Tennessee, and another from the east coast. The reason... mostly the economy. People laid off are in worker retraining since they can't get a job... high school grads, of course, are in classes with others that are there to learn more... including college grads. They know that when there is finally hiring, they will have to have the skills to get hired for the jobs that will be available.

I saw the wave out on the horizon weeks ago. And we all, in our office, have been bracing for it's landing on September 21. Shirlyn and I went in at 10 am to work to 7 pm... taking in one car. We went together because we knew the parking would be BAD at 10 am. We dressed for the occasion... and before we went into work we prayed for the day ahead. We went head on into it! 7 hours later I spoke the first words that I said to Shirlyn all day while we were at work because we had one student after the next coming in for assistance.

So... as I write this the first day has passed and we have survived! Now for the rest of the week... Have a wonderful day!
