I am Back On The Net! And Happy Birthday Jon!

Hi Everyone! Just a quick post to let you know we are back up and running again, as you can see. It's about time. Plus, there has been nothing but waiting this week as we wait for the teacher strike to come to a close.

The Strike - Riley remains still out of class. The teachers have striked now for a week. On Tuesday, the school district announced that they would be taking this to court. So they went before the court on Wednesday... and then planned to meet again today. When the judge met with them today, it was ruled that the teachers were going against the law when striking. It is against the law in Washington state to strike if you are a public employee. And basically were told to be back into the classroom next Tuesday.

The next thing we knew was that the teachers were meeting at Green River Community College, where I work. 16,ooo teachers came to the gym to talk about what they were going to do next. For some reason, they have decided to meet on Monday, Labor Day. They are going to decide if they are going to continue on with the strike regardless it has been ruled as being unlawful. The district had to do it's duty to the students by going to the court. Every kid is entitled to an education and they are affecting 26,ooo families... they have to get daycare or stay home, and they have bills to pay etc. We happen to be one of those families. Fortunately, our kids are going to the same daycare still until they get this resolved. If the teachers are meeting on Monday, they may or may not be having school on Tuesday... and we are holding our breath.

My brother Jon's 50th birthday is today. I can remember the day when I first saw him in a crib in our room. They had told me I would have a new baby to play with. But when I saw him, it was clear that he wasn't going to play... he just laid there. That was went the adults let me know that it would be a few years (Do you know how long a year feels to a kid?) before he could play. Well, I thought to myself, "What good is having a baby then?" Time goes on... Happy 50th to you Jon!
