Most of the time, we don't use an umbrella here. It isn't because we think you're a "sissy" if you use one (as it is believed), it is because it is lightly showering or misting most of the time, so an umbrella isn't needed really. I usually have a hood on my coat or jacket to use to cover my head. Coming from California, where it down pours if it rains (flash flooding) and gets it over with... without doing any good. I think of rain as "stretched" out here, where we have it steady and for a long time. It reminds me of the misters at the amusement parks to keep you cool in the summer while you stand in line to get on a ride, or the misters at the food store in the vegetable section, coming on and getting the vegetables and you both.
However, this morning I woke up to hearing the rain down pour outside. Even the hood on my jacket wouldn't be enough... I will be digging out the umbrellas. The sound of the rain makes one want to go under the covers deeper, and not come out. I got closer to Dave, trying to absorb his warmth, because the sound made me feel cold. I looked at the clock, and just a month and a half ago it would have been still light outside at that time. I remember the birds happily chirping outside the window rather than hearing rain. And, it is now dark in the mornings. Here in the PNW it gets light at about 5:30 am in the morning in June and July, and now the sun isn't up until a little after 6:30 am and we haven't had the time change yet. It will be darker yet in the morning in an other month.
What is odd to me, is that it has been progressing this way since the first day of summer. So, we have been changing back and losing light since about June 21st, over 3 months ago. It is just now revealing itself. Sort of like the economy problems reaching Main Street.
But, I keep looking for ways to celebrate this season! The trees have just begun to change color... each type of tree has it's timing, taking turns at being beautiful and putting on a show. I am cooking more now at home... that is good. Being creative is always fun. We have our Fall Breakfast at the church in the morning tomorrow... after all our planning it is finally time to get things rolling. I am excited about that! So today, I have work but my thoughts are on the breakfast. I will take photos so that I can share next week. (I still have photos to take off my camera to share with you from the summer too... where does the time go?)

Hi Danna! When Jeff and I traveled to the PNW, we were surprised at how late it stayed light during the summer. I wanted to photograph the Parliament Bldg with all it's white lights in Victoria and it was almost 10 PM before they came on. I had my flu shot with no reactions at all. I hadn't heard about a 3 week wait to get the next one. Enjoy the week ahead! (((Hugz)))
Hi Danna! You know how I get my photos off my phone? I send them to my email addy. :) Guess that's the lazy way. We're having cool, crispy weather this week! (((Hugz)))
