Was That The Weekend?
As I type this post, I feel like the weekend (once more) blew by. Saturday I worked on getting the boys warm clothes back into the closet and put the summer clothes away. I did the same for my closet. Renee had brought clothes over for the boys and for the Washington Women's Employment Education that we contribute to when we clean out our closets. And Julia's aunt had done the same... None the less I had a bunch of clothes to sort and organize.
At noon on Saturday we had Brady's little soccer game. He had missed last week because of his infection in his mouth. So off we went to the field, and although we had dressed warm, it wasn't warm enough. The cold was there... so we all huddled together for the hour Brady was running around the field (he was fine while he ran around). Note to self, begin to bring more "stuff"; jackets, blankets, warm drinks etc.
After the game we headed for the nearest restaurant to get warmed up with coffee and ended up having "dinner". We next were to go to get the flu shots for the boys. All the rest of us has now had the regular flu shot, and now it is time for the boys. We just can't take the boys to Safeway etc, they have to go to their doctor's office.
The boys took the shots really well... no tears. Riley, being the big brother, stepped up to the plate and took his to show his brother there was nothing to it. After it was done, he announced, "It didn't even hurt!" Brady, not believing every word from Riley, still looked unsure. So, Dave held him and entertained him with his watch. Brady was happy that he followed the instructions of "Don't move!"... "I didn't move, Papa!", he said. I knew that the shot was going to make them sleeply so they went home for naps, including Papa. However, I had a date to meet up with Susie at 5 pm.
Susie Shields has been a very good friend since our days of being career specialists at the high schools in our district. She worked at one high school and I at the other, but we would need to get together from time to time for projects. We became great friends. I followed her to GRCC. Working in the high schools wore us thin, so we moved over to the college. She worked in Tech Prep and I in Enrollment Services. Later, we both were in Outreach... I was in Outreach at GRCC and she had moved to the University of Washington, Tacoma. A year ago, she moved back to North Carolina. :-( They wanted to retire there where they were close to her oldest daughter, and so they bought a house. He stayed here one more year being a firefighter for better retirement benefits, and his last day was October 4th. She in the meantime opened a Christian bookstore.
It was great seeing everyone again as a walked into the restaurant. I didn't have much time with her, only about two hours, and those hours went quickly. She is on Facebook but not often, so I encouraged her to do that more now that Terry will be home to assist with the store. They left Sunday night with a truck to North Carolina with the rest of their belongings. And the next trip here won't be for a while... it probably is me getting on a plane to go there to visit. I could do that.
So that was just Saturday... Sunday was church and a drive in the country to see the leaves changing color. I will post more on that later.
Busy day ahead, so I better get going! Have a great Monday! (Hi MOM!)
