Energy

Puget Sound Energy finally got the lights turned back on at the campus at around 10 pm Monday night, so we were at work Tuesday. The second Presidential candidate wasn't in the dark... well, not without lights. Maybe in some other issues. I actually heard a candidate be asked a question on an interview and then answer the question with a question. Which make him look like he didn't do his homework. Only one person I talked to thought he was better than the lady we had on Monday.

One thing interesting in regards to having the power outage is that we were discussing emergency situations at the last staff meeting on Friday. The last earthquake we had here in WA was in February of 2001. With all the other earthquakes happening, we are looking to see if we have our "gear" ready. And the answer is NO. In CA we would do drills etc. But here, the idea of an earthquake is so removed that no one is ready at all. We discovered that the electronic flushing system at the college in the restrooms won't flush. You can't wash your hands because the electronic eye won't work to let the water out. So most of the restrooms were closed. The Grill closed... the bookstore closed... so there wasn't any food. The vending machines, of course, wouldn't work. The heat in the building went away and I was wrapped in a blanket by 11 am. It took 2.5 hours for students to get off the campus... because there are only two ways in or out. One was blocked. What if both were blocked? So they will be going back to the drawing board. I, however, will go back to what I know from CA and start carrying supplies in my car.

My thoughts are now towards Mother's Day. My mom is in California... and it tough to think of something to send. But I will come up with something here shortly. I have to. It must be in the mail on Wednesday. I didn't mean to wait to the last minute... I have had it in the back of my mind and looking. However, anything that I have seen or came up with wasn't interesting to me. Now with retiring though, they can go on a drive anytime. So maybe some gift certificate to eat will be good... but boring.

I was able to get some soil in my little garden yesterday. We did see rain, hail, and sunshine. That is typical at this time of year. I took advantage of the sunshine. I also would like to plant more seeds etc and get more plants going.

Have a great Wednesday... half the week is done.
