What? Again? Where's the Flashlight?

In what is quickly turning into a May tradition, an unusual and unseasonable low pressure system off the Washington coast produced winds strong enough to topple a neighborhood tree across power lines cutting electricity to the college and forcing classes to be cancelled.

Yesterday’s event, which occurred just before 2 p.m., ultimately resulted in classes being cancelled and employees being sent home early. It was very similar to a wind event on May 3rd that brought activity at the college to a halt. This time, a tree just west of campus toppled across power lines. I just had come back from lunch and could see the signals were out.

There was a long line of students coming out of the campus but none of this was too unusual.  However, when I walked up to the building I work in, it was all dark. On May 3rd, I had a little red flashlight which I still had with me in my purse.  I pulled it out to climb the stairs.  We sat in the dark for about an hour before we were sent home.Since it was raining hard, I went to get the boys and Kari.  The weather people on the news were telling us we had a storm coming that would have 40-60 mph winds/ gusts.  I had already experienced some of the damage one could have from the storm at work, so if the storm hadn’t even yet arrived, I was going to make sure we were all where we were suppose to be to be safe.

The winds really never got bad during the night.  Usually, what is going to give you a problem comes unexpectedly.  Right now it is really dark and wet outside.  It looks a lot more threatening than it did last yesterday afternoon.  My garden is getting some good watering…

I didn’t go to bible study last night either because of this situation.  But I have been doing my own studying which is probably what I need to do right now as I am still recovering from the pneumonia. I am doing better but I still get tired easily.  It wasn’t as bad as it was last year and I have recovered more quickly too.  The nurse told me that I wouldn’t feel like myself for about a month or so.  I am trying to be “good”.

Well, have a good Thursday!

Hi Danna, Wow - sounds like not so good weather. Sounds cozy though - fun. I'm sure if I were there, I wouldn't think it, but being here in sunshine, it does. Hope you have a blessed weekend. I am off to check your daughter's poetry blog. Hugs!
