8th Grade College Day

Today we had 8th Grade College Day at our school/college. We had 600+ 8th graders attend. Our gym was filled with students, teachers, college reps and "others". The opening session was very good with a rapper, and a dancer/ singer. After sessions, they had 3 sessions to attend and lunch. I presented for 4 sessions, 30 minutes each session, to 8th graders regarding Community and Technical Colleges. That adds up to 2 hours of talking, outloud... about the same subject each time. By the fourth sessions, I was getting tired.

One of the students from Clover Park Techinical College in the Tacoma area has done a video to promote math skills to younger students in high school and middle schools. For fun... at the very bottom of this blogsite I have embeded the YouTube video of his rap about math. You can see in the background the college halls what it looks like around here in WA. It isn't raining in the video... so don't tell anyone. It is very entertaining and speaks to the kids. Check it out if you are interested. "Math Is What You Do" is the title.

My friends from other colleges wanted to take me out to lunch because this is my last week in Recruitment and Outreach. For those of you that haven't heard, the budget crisis is moving some of us around. It is better to moved around than to be moved "out" entirely. But despite knowing that, I still have emotions regarding leaving my team and work that I have enjoyed doing for the college. As I have said in my posts, I have tried hard to focus on the positives to this change and not the negetives. Yet, as you know, it is difficult at the same time because it is something that I must do and not something that I would have choosen otherwise.

On top of this, Dave is still gone on his business trip. There isn't anything he could really do about the changes going on, but it would be nice still if he was here. Well enough of that...

As I said, I am tired and I am feeling so many emotions. It is probably best if I just call it a day. I appreciate all you kindnesses and encouragements. I am very Thankful for my blogging buddies (which are also my facebook buddies too).

Hi Danna! You're doing great trying to keep an upbeat attitude in the face of all the change. I enjoyed the rap video and how he tied math skills to all the occupations. (((Hugz)))

Ciao Danna, what a cool rap video, I really like it! :) Keep smiling and try to think positive all the time. I know it's not easy every now and then, but we should keep trying. Nite nite! :)
