San Juan Islands

Welcome August! Can you believe it is here? I can't. It is Dave's, Riley's, and my birthday month. Riley starts 1st grade on the 31st. We will really have to soak up summer now that it is August.

Last week we had a record heat wave here of 103 degrees. OK... I know that isn't bad in some places. After all, I did live in the inland empire in California for 15 years. There in the summer it is normal to have heatwaves in the 100s... and I remember hoping the heat would be gone by Halloween so that we could get on with Autumn. BUT, here it isn't normal. It is usually in the 70-80 degrees at this time of the year, so most people (including me) do not have air conditioning. I think because I remember what hot really feels like, I "weathered" it well. I don't complain much when it is hot outside, except it kills my flowers. But the native people here think and act like they went to hell. They would actually like to have snow more than the heat, I think. We have more warm days ahead, but for now we are OK. We have 90 degree weather for today. However, I can still hear the prayer for rain around me.

As promised here is more on our trip to the San Juan Islands on the ferry. Today is the trip, tomorrow more of the trip and Friday Harbor, then to Orcas Island, and back to Anacortes.

At the top of Washington, the San Juan Islands are located. To get a closer look I have provided websites for you to look at too. HERE is one about the islands and other one is a cam found HERE

One goes to Anacortes to get to the ferry dock. We wanted to go to two islands on this day. Because we had the boys with us, we decided to only stay a couple of hours in each place. So we meet the ferry and aboarded around 11:00 am. That made it possible to have our breakfast at the B&B and get to the ferry etc. I had it so planned out that we hardly had to wait.

Here are scenes of the ferry, and Dave (below is playing with the boys while we are sailing through the water to Friday Harbor). In the background you can see we are passing one of the islands.

There are large islands and there are small ones too... Below is one that I would like to own and have a little "get away" spot.

While we are out there, we are looking for Orcas whales (Killer Whales) because they swim here in their pods.

Tomorrow... More on our hour plus trip to Friday Harbor... and arriving at Friday Harbor.
