Vacation Day

Today was going to be Riley's first day back to school. He was to start first grade. Howvever, the teachers in our district began to strike last Thursday, and it has been resolved. They are striking for more money and a reduced classroom size.

How do I feel about this? Well, normally I would support the teachers. But I am having a difficult time supporting them in this economy. I think the timing is bad. When many of us have been laid off, had to take a pay cut, or have had to make changes (like me), it doesn't make the teachers look very good. "At least they have a job" is what one hears. Also, so they reduce class size? Where do they put the extra kids? Portables? Hire new teachers? All takes time and money (which no one has) So, Riley will be in daycare until the teachers and the district make a deal.

We had our birthday, Riley and me, on Saturday. I got my netbook and Riley got his Game Boy DS system. The deal was no little toy gifts, just a big one. The one he wanted. He was excited! We did take him to Chuck E Cheese to play in the arcade too. He loves to go there, although he doesn't like pizza. So we get a soda and just play the games.

Sunday was a big day. We had Rally Day at church for the kids to celebrate the new school year. The boys didn't want to sing the songs we had been practicing over a month. Maybe next time.

Then we went to Srey's wedding. He was one of my co-workers in Outreach. It was a beautiful day on the Sound. They had the wedding outside in one of the parks. I have photos too!

The last event we went to was a BBQ for us that have birthdays... Dave, Riley, Ruth and I. Dave's mom had it at her house. It was great to see everyone! I hope it isn't Thanksgiving when I see them again. Time goes so fast!

Today I had taken off with Dave to support Riley. So dave and I had a date day. We went to Starbucks where we overheard a pastor and a board member talking and making future plans for their church. We also went shopping... I got a tote for my netbook. We went to Anthony's Homeport for lunch and had clam chowder and a salad on one of our gift certificates. And we went to Lowe's. I will later show you my fountain on the deck, and my little Fall bears for the garden in the front yard.

I am posting this from my cellphone because my internet went down this morning. According to the tech, we won't be up and running for a day or two. So this will have to do for today. Have a good one!
