President ObamaI don't know about you, but I did shed a tear of two yesterday when Obama became president. I was born in the fifties, and although I was a girl, I remember many of the ways that African Americans were treated. In the early 70s when I was in high school, "they" bussed a few black students to our school. We didn't know why, but it was OK with us. They were even cheerleaders. There were many things that were beginning to change even then; at least in Long Beach, CA. But it has been a long road. I saw the Civil Rights movement... was alive when President Kennedy was alive and shot. It reminds me that change can happen, but it isn't overnight.
Speaking of the Kennedy's, I noticed just how happy Senator Kennedy was at the inauguration. He couldn't help think of his brothers and they importance of the time in history they played. I am sorry that he was taken ill and couldn't stay for the whole day of festivities because his smile never left his face.
I think being at the college was the best place to be for me. President Obama even mentioned the importance of universities and colleges (that is us). I was warm, I could see everything as if I was on the podium, and there was a big room full of people celebrating just as I was celebrating. The next best thing would to be there. But then there were many people, it was very cold, and one couldn't see too much. Yet, it must have been very exciting for those there.
Today is a new day. It is the new beginning. We are going forward. I understand fully what the president was saying about working hard. I am asking God just what I need to do to do what He asks and what the president is expressing in his statements. I guess it isn't going to be hard. All one has to do is open their eyes. Need is all around us. You know, the best way to feel better is to help someone else. With all of us doing something to better things, it can only get better.

Hi Danna! As we are from the same era, I feel the same as you. I was very politically active as a college student and I'm very happy to see this generation energized and becoming involved again. (((Hugz)))
Hi Danna! I feel as though I haven't been here in ages. I have been so bad in being able to catch up with my reads. I have missed you! I think the entire world is feeling more hope, & I pray that our new president will get prayers & support. It's going to be a huge job ahead of him, but he seems up to it. Have a wonderful day Danna! Sending you big hugs!
